I’m planning a significant overhaul of Learn Tabletop RPGs, and I need your help.
The site needs to serve three primary goals:

Educate people who know nothing about tabletop RPGs, so they can at least get a general understanding of what they are and aren’t.

Help people start playing tabletop RPGs by providing clear, welcoming explanations, and useful resources that won’t overwhelm them.

Provide resources for people who are already playing tabletop RPGs, so they can learn about games they haven’t played, pick up new player/GM techniques, and so on.

Tonally, the site needs to:

Welcome everyone. Tabletop roleplaying isn’t just for straight white males, and that needs to be made clear by the words and images on the site.

Favor quality over quantity. Hundreds of tabletop RPGs have been published over the years, but the site is going to focus on those that have coherent rules, clean presentation, and an active player base (not necessarily large, but engaged).

Elucidate variations between games without picking sides. There are many modes of play, from hero building to world immersion to story spinning. I’m leaving arguments about what constitutes “real” tabletop RPG to other venues, as I find those discussions absurd.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it:

Take a gander at the site if you haven’t already. Poke around. Kick the tires. Give it a spin. Try it on for size. Err.. you get the idea.

Think about how the site does or doesn’t measure up to my stated goals of helping people understand tabletop RPGs, help them get started with said games, and help existing gamers enjoy the hobby even more.

Reblog with your thoughts and suggestions. Send me an in-mail and pray that it somehow makes it through the tumblr-tubes to me. Send me a tweet (@unpossiblelabs). Email me (erik@unpossiblelabs.com).

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance, and please, please spread the word, particularly to anyone you know who has thought about playing a tabletop RPG but has been hesitant for any reason, and to anyone who has ever talked to you about how they feel uncomfortable with tabletop RPGs because of issues of representation.

Teaching rpg materials and how to play is one of my favorite parts of the game

My dad would tell me that when we were little and people would say to him “wow, four daughters, that’s a lot of weddings to pay for” (because traditionally the bride’s family would pay for the wedding), my dad would respond with “well, we’re hoping at least one of them will be gay so we can split the cost with the other bride’s family”
He said people never knew how to respond
